Don't Wait for Google—Get Night Mode Right Now on Android Nougat

It's now common knowledge that the blue light emitted by phone screens makes it harder to get a good night's sleep. Apple's Night Shift in iOS and its steamrolled predecessor, f.lux (still available for desktop computers), are attempts to combat these harmful effects by limiting the amount of blue light from the screen at certain times of day (nighttime, say). For Android users who installed the Developer Preview build of Android 7.0 Nougat, the included "Night Mode" feature was all set to do the same for them.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Night Mode was conspicuously absent from the final build of Android Nougat. People were understandably upset... and probably sleepy as well. Some even took to reporting the lack of Night Mode on the AOSP issue tracker as a "bug" in the new update. Now, one of these reports has been officially closed with its "status marked as FutureRelease." We'll just have to wait and see if that means that Google plans on reinstating Night Mode in a future update.

But if you don't feel like waiting even one more sleepless night, there's a way to enable Night Mode right now on Android Nougat. You don't even have to be rooted, either. It's just a simple matter of knowing where to look and what to do. Check out the full step-by-step guide below to unlock this cool feature right now.
