How To: Tap into the Reddit Hivemind's Comments on Any Article

Tap into the Reddit Hivemind's Comments on Any Article

When you want to read product reviews, you go to Amazon—regardless of whether or not you intend on buying the product from their website. By the same sense, when you want to read discussions about certain topics you come across on the internet, there's no better place than Reddit.

But Reddit has its downsides, and the whole thing can be too much for some people, so developer Chaitanya Nettem came up with a way to use Reddit without having to deal with all the distractions.

Picture this: You come across an interesting article while browsing your favorite news app, then decide you'd like to hear what other people have to say about the topic. With this app installed, all you have to do is share a link to the article, then you'll instantly see links to the Reddit comment section for that specific topic. In the end, you'll skip straight to the discussions without having to deal with the rest of Reddit, and it's a great way to find related content.

Step 1: Install Search for Reddit

To get started, the only thing you'll really need to do is install the app, which is called Search for Reddit.

Step 2: Share Any Link

With Search for Reddit installed, you don't need to change any of your browsing habits. Just continue using your favorite news app or web browser to find content, then when you want to see what other people have to say about something you've read, just head to the app's share menu, and select "Search for Reddit."

Step 3: View Discussions on That Topic

From here, you'll see links to the Reddit comments section for that specific article, and all you have to do is tap one to see what other people have to say about the topic. Of course, this only works if the link has been previously posted to Reddit, but you'll be surprised with how many articles have active discussions going on. Plus, Reddit's comments section is a goldmine for related content, so you'll be able to find further reading on the topic rather easily.

Once on Reddit, you can browse and comment as you like, as long as you're signed in.

Very cool! I now need a chrome extension that will do the same trick. Any takers?
